Abstract

1365807 Concentrating tobacco extract BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO Ltd 14 Feb 1973 [6 March 1972] 10311/72 Heading B1X [Also in Division A2] In a method of obtaining a concentrated tobacco extract for use in a smoking material from a dilute aqueous extract, the process of reverse osmosis is applied to the dilute extract using a membrane substantially impermeable to the solute components of the dilute extract. As described, six tubular modules capable of connection in series or in parallel are used, with valve arrangements allowing recirculation of either the permeate or the concentrate.
