Abstract
1365511 Lift tracks CONVEYANCER Ltd 4 May 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 4438/71 Heading B8H [Also in Division H2] A system for returning energy to the battery (not shown) of, for example, an industrial lift truck, comprises an electric motor 1 supplied by the battery and adapted to drive an hydraulic pump 8, and control valves 15, 20 which direct hydraulic fluid from the pump to a jack 16 of the truck or allow fluid to return from the jack to the pump to drive it and the motor so that the motor restores energy to the battery. In order to raise the jack, a lever associated with the valve 15 is moved to close contacts 2 and set the swash plate angle of the pump by means of an actuator 21. The motor 1 therefore drives the pump 8 which supplies fluid from a reservoir 9 via valves 10, 15, 14, 18 to the jack. To lower the jack, the lever is moved to open a diverter valve 20 and to set the valve 15 so that as the potential energy of the jack drives the pump the fluid is returned via conduits 13, 19 to the reservoir. The lever also causes opening of the contacts 2 and changes over a switch 6 connected between series and shunt field coils 3 and 5 respectively. The pump therefore drives the armature 4 of the motor 1 as a generator and supplies charging current to the battery via a diode or thyristor 7.
