Abstract

1365395 Metallic springs CENTRONICS DATA COMPUTER CORP 13 June 1972 [14 June 1971] 27592/72 Heading F2S [Also in Divisions B6 and H1] A solenoid driver, e.g. for a dot matrix printer, has an armature-loading spring 19 with a central opening 19b for receiving the reduced diameter of an armature (18) to which it is secured by a fastening member whose shank passes through the spring opening and a washer (20) to engage an opening in the armature. The periphery of the spring 19 bears on a spacer resting on a shoulder in a casing (11) and is secured with the armature by a cap (23) threaded in the casing and having a projection (23b) bearing on the head of the fastening member. The cap is rotatable to set the preloading of the spring, and this is measurable by a probe inserted through axial opening of the cap which may be sealed in position by epoxy resin after adjustment. The deflection characteristic of force against displacement is stated to be logarithmic (Figs. 2a, 2b, 2c, not shown). On energization of the solenoid, a print wire is moved from rest to impact position, and on de-energization the spring extends maximum force to return it rapidly to rest without bounce or overshoot.
