Abstract
136,530. Matteucci, R. Dec. 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Friction gearing.-In epicyclic friction gearing of the type in which planetary wheels 4 engage with a central roller 2 and with a split ring 1, ears F, F<1> on the ring ends are pressed together by a spring L bearing on a nut K on a bolt D. A lever E bears against knife-edges, balls, or the like A, A<1> and B on collars G, H bearing against the ear F<1> and a shoulder on the bolt respectively, the outer lever end engaging an abutment P, which may be stationary or may form the driving or driven member of the gear. Rocking of the lever E tightens the ring on the rollers as the load increases, irrespective of the direction of drive. Two abutments for the lever E may be provided on the collar H. The meeting edges of the ring interpenetrate. To prevent relative radial displacement of the ring ends, bolts M, M<1>, Fig. 4, may be secured to the ear F and to a plate N secured to the ear F<1>, the bolts being radial to the gearing and sufficiently flexible to allow expansion or contraction of the ring. The bolts M, M<1> may be replaced by guides.
