Abstract

1365294 Aerobic degradation ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENTS (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd 13 Oct 1971 [17 Oct 1970] 49397/70 Heading B1C Apparatus for aerating, e.g. slurry comprises a shaft 3, a floatation member 5 mounted on electric motor, a skirt 4 rotatable with the shaft 3, a floatation member 5 mounted on the shaft 3 and air discharge nozzles 37 round the periphery of the skirt. The skirt may have radial flutes. The apparatus is sunk into the material to be treated up to the level of an annular float 41 of the member 5, wedges 45 allowing adjustable location of the member 5 on the shaft 3. Compressed air through a flexible pipe 29 drives a vaned rotor 22 of the motor 2 to drive the shaft 3. Exaust from the motor 2 is led to the nozzles 37, to be discharged into the material through non- return valves. Eye bolts 9 facilitate lifting, lowering and movement of the apparatus and permit the motor housing to be anchored. The skirt 4 may be of plastics material, and the shaft, &c., may be of stainless steel, or mild steel coated with zinc, cadmium or plastics.
