Abstract

1365131 Magnetic transducers MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 8 Nov 1971 [7 Nov 1970 10 Nov 1970 16 Nov 1970 (2) 17 Nov 1970 24 March 1971] 51840/71 Heading G5R A multi-track magnetic head assembly comprises a plurality of annular magnetic cores 20, each having a non-magnetic gap 21 and a oneturn winding in the form of a conductive rod 24 extending through the opening 23 of the core 20 and in electrical contact with conductive plates 25 disposed on opposite sides of the core 20. The rod 24 may be common to all the heads. The adjacent plates 25 of adjacent heads are separated by insulating layers 26, which may be of magnetic material to form magnetic shields. The adjacent plates 25 may, as shown, lie in parallel planes, or, Fig. 10 (not shown), in the same plane. The plates 25 may have a recess (33), Fig. 6 (not shown) or an opening (34), Fig. 7 (not shown), to accommodate the rod 24. The plates 25 may alternatively be L-shaped, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), in a staggered arrangement. The magnetic cores 20 may have a sufficiently high electrical resistance to render insulation between the cores 20 and the rod 24 unnecessary. Methods of manufacturing such assemblies are disclosed in Specification 1,356,814.
