Abstract

1364579 Sampling and filtering device GLASROCK, PRODUCTS Inc 25 Sept 1972 44268/72 Heading B1D [Also in Division Gl] A sampling and/or filtering device comprises an elongate hollow sampling member 19 open at both ends, a resilient piston member 25 mounted at one end of the sampling member and comprising a body having an axially disposed bore 32 through it and a flange or lip 30 integral with and projecting outwardly from the body to form a seal with the inernal surface of a container 10 when the sampling member and piston member move into the container, and porous filter member 40 of plastics material, glass wool, asbestos, synthetic plasics fibres, sintered glass on diatomaceous silica press-fitted into the bore 32. In use, the liquid may be initially above or below the piston member. When the liquid is initially below the piston member the piston member is forced into container 10 and the liquid flows through the filter, then sampling member 19 enclosing the filtered liquid may be tilted in the container (Fig. 4, not shown) to allow withdrawal of the sampling member.
