Abstract

1364511 Turbines MOSKOVSKY ORDENA LENINA ENERGETICHESKY INSTITUT 11 Aug 1971 37613/71 Heading FIT In a single- or multi-stage turbine comprising a nozzle diaphragm 1, Fig. 1, located upstream of rotor wheel 3, the diaphragm has an annular projection 7 which overlaps a frusto-conical surface formed by the rotor blade roots to direct leakage returning to the main flow, in a substantially axial direction. The radially inner surface of the projection 7 may be formed with grooves (10), Fig. 2 (not shown) inclined similarly to the nozzles in diaphragm 1 to give the returning leakage flow a rotational component in the direction of rotor rotation. Partial sealing of the leakage flow-path may be achieved by providing a shoulder (11), Fig. 3a (not shown) extending axially from the blade roots towards the diaphragm. Additionally the shoulder may include a sealing rib or ribs (12), Figs. 3b and c (not shown)on its radially outer surface or on its surface facing the diaphragm.
