Abstract
1364055 Variable resistors BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 3 July 1972 [4 June 1971] 18964/71 Heading H1S [Also in Divisions G1 and H2] A potentiometer in which the output bears a sinusoidal relationship to the angular movement of the wiper contact arm 7 comprises an annular resistive film 1 connectible at diametrically opposite points to a voltage source 5 (which may be an A.C. source, the output being taken from the wiper and the mid-potential point 10 of the voltage source). To ensure symmetry diametrically opposed terminal points 11, 12 may be connected to mid-potential point 10 and to earth. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) two wipers and two voltage sources are provided. The wiper(s) may contact conductive areas arranged along and connected to the inner edge of the resistive film. The resistive film may be of carbon loaded plastic material, of cermet or of printed and fired resistor ink. The conductive areas and the connection points, e.g. 3, 4, may be made from powdered silver or gold suspended in a varnish.
