Abstract
1363912 Winding strand around structures M J DYKMANS 28 May 1971 [16 July 1970] 17933/71 Heading B8G [Also in Division B3] Wire S is wound around a tube T under a controlled tension, means being provided for indicating the tension in the wire leaving a wire gripping drum 21, by moving a carriage 7 around the tube by the engagement of a chain C encircling the tube with a sprocket 22 mounted in the carriage on a shaft 10 driven by an hydraulic motor 30, and controlling the rotation of the wire gripping drum 21, To take up slack after the wire has been attached to the tube, the tap 102 of a resistance 103 is adjusted to provide an increased voltage to a servo control 97. This causes a control motor 92 to operate a pump 370 and increase the volume of delivery to a line 360A. A motor/pump 361 thus acts as a motor to rotate the drum 21, via sprockets and chain 15, 16, 16A, a shaft 40, and sprockets and chain 41, 42, 21B, to reel in the wire slack. At this stage a motor 360, fed by a line 360A and connected to the shaft 10, is stationary due to the friction of the carriage. The wire continues to be reeled in until the wire becomes stressed, the stress being monitored by a load cell 100 which supplies a proportionate voltage signal to the control 97 and a signal to a tension indicator, e.g. a visual or permanent type paper recorder. The control 97 compares the signals to the load cell and the tap 102 and when the two signals become equal, pressure is developed and maintained in the line 361A. The carriage 7 is ;hen moved by supplying fluid pressure to motor 30 which causes the shaft 10 to rotate the sprocket 22. When the carriage moves, the drum 21 rotates and acts as a prime mover to operate the motor/pump 361 as a pump. The pump 361 pumps fluid in line 361A to the motor 360, the latter also driving the shaft 10. Assuming that during the carriage movement there is a decrease in the preset tension of the wire, the decrease is sensed by the transducer 100 which cause pump 370, via motor 92, to deliver a greater fluid pressure to the line 360A and so automatically restoring the wire tension. The pitch of the wire is controlled by two limit switches LS1 and LS2. When switch LS1 is opened by a stationary cam 242, a counter having a preset count is actuated and hydraulic fluid is supplied to a motor 206 of a winch 202. A platform 5 is moved vertically within the carriage 7 by rotation of the winch so that the wire is layed on the tube at an angle to the horizontal. The rotation of the winch rotates a cam 222 which actuates the switch LS2 which is connected to the counter. When the preset count is reached the motor 206 is stopped and the wire is layed horizontally on the tube.
