1363765 Packaging; portable containers; cases SIDAPLAX 7 July 1972 [29 July 1971] 35685/71 Headings B8C B8D and B8P A container has an opening surrounded by a flange or rim bearing a raised pattern so as to reduce friction between the flange or rim and a film of thermoplastics resin when the container is overwrapped with the film. The raised pattern may extend over the whole of the rim or the whole of the upper surface of the flange or may be arranged at spaced portions of the flange or rim. The raised pattern may comprise a series of part-spherical, part-ellipsoidal, frusto-conical, cylindrical, conical, or pyramidal projections, closely spaced ribs, a lattice or criss-cross pattern, knurling, or tooth-shaped or triangular serrations. The raised pattern projects 0À1 to 3 millimetres from the surface of the rim or flange, and are from 0À3 to 4 millimetres in length. The container may be vacuum or pressure formed or formed by injection moulding from a polyacrylate, a polymethacrylate, a polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene terephthalate, isotactic polypropylene, polystyrene, or a styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer. The container may also be of paper, paper pulp or cardboard. The thermoplastics film may be of polyvinyl chloride, biaxially orientated polystyrene, high impact polystyrene, polyvinyl halides, polyvinylidene chloride, rubber hydrochloride, orientated or irradiated polyethylene or orientated polypropylene. The film may be composite comprising a stretch film joined to a shrink film. The film is 0À01 to 0À075 millimetres thick. The film is stretched or shrunk over an article placed in the container and sealed to itself or the base or side walls of the container by heat sealing, adhesive, or solvent.
