Abstract

1363617 Gas discharge lamps PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 April 1973 [20 April 1972] 18437/73 Heading H1D A method of manufacturing a curved tubular low-pressure mercury discharge lamp comprises the steps of coating the inside surface of an open straight cylindrical tube with a film containing an organic titanium compound, e.g. tetrabutyl titanate, titanium acetylacetonate or tetraisopropyl titanate, hydrolysing the compound to produce an uninterrupted titanium dioxide film inside the tube, forming a coating of luminescent material, e.g. calcium halophosphate activated by manganese and antimony, over the titanium dioxide film, sealing electrodes into the lamp then heating the tube and bending it to the desired curve. The titanium dioxide film is from 0.02 to 0À2 microns thick.
