1363413 Credit card systems TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 23 July 1971 [24 July 1970] 35996/70 Headings G4V and G4T In a delivery system, information read from a credit card is compared with information from a manual input, delivery is blocked if the two bits of information do not correspond, and a printed record of details of the card and of the delivery is made. In use of the petrol dispensing system shown, a code is manually entered at 20 and the credit card, formed with punched holes indicating a code number, is inserted at 30, where its positioning is checked. A signal over line 31 then enables a comparator 19. Input 20 is locked and the card is read photo-electrically at. 10 to produce a signal which sets printing wheels 14 to represent the code number. Wheels 14 mechanically actuate a unit 18 which produces an electrical output related to the code number. If this output and the manually entered code are found to disagree at 19, a visual or audible warning may be given; if they agree, a petrol pump 25 is enabled via interlock 21. A number of pulses, proportional to the quantity of fuel supplied, set printing wheels 28. The date, time and octane rating of the fuel may also be set at printer 15 by means not shown. A display is operated in response to the setting of the printer. After fuel delivery is completed, a button (not shown) is depressed to initiate the return of the credit card and operation of the printer 15. If the comparator 19 finds that the code number and the manually entered code do not agree, an audible or visual warning device may be operated.
