Abstract
1363323 2 - (5 - Nitro - 2 - imidazolyl)- pyrimidines POLI INDUSTRIA CHIMICA SpA 8 May 1972 [8 May 1971] 21432/72 Heading C2C Novel compounds (I) and their acid addition salts in which R is ethyl, methyl or benzyl and R 1 is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, nitro, amino, or -N=N-C 6 H 5 -p-Cl are prepared by reacting a |substituted malonaldehyde (or its sodium derivative) R 1 CH(CHO) 2 with an amidine (III) Amidines (III) are prepared in situ from a nitrile (IV) or an imino ester (V) by reaction of ammonium chloride with an alcohol and pyridine. Compounds (I) in which R is amino are also obtained by acid hydrolysis of compounds (I) in which R is an amide group. Compounds (I) show trichomonocidal antibacterial and anti-fungal activity and form with a carrier or coating a pharmaceutical composition which may be administered orally.
