Abstract

1363128 Colouring polyesters IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 May 1972 [18 June 1971] 28767/71 Heading C3R A process for mass colouring polyesters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, comprises incorporating into the preformed polyester a dyestuff of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are chlorine or bromine atoms. The process may be carried out (a) by intimately mixing the dyestuff in finely divided form with chips or granules of the polyester, the dyestuff being in the form of a powder or a dispersion in water or ethylene glycol, or preferably (b) by adding tablets or granules of the dyestuff to the molten polyester. The dyestuff may be used in the form of granules or tablets having a coating of a polyester. Dyestuffs used in the examples are 2,2<SP>1</SP>,6-trichloro- and 2,21- dichloro-6-bromo-derivatives of 4-nitro-4<SP>1</SP>-[N,N- di-(#-hydroxyethyl)amino]azobenzene.
