Abstract
1363124 Aircraft undercarriages AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 5 May 1972 [21 May 1971] 17550/71 Heading B7G [Also in Division E2] A telescopic bracing strut 14 for an aircraft undercarriage has an inner component 26 slidable in an outer tube, and a device for fastening the strut in an extended position comprising a sleeve, slidable in the outer tube with the inner component and having longitudinally extending resilient fingers 42 with heads 43 projecting radially outwardly therefrom and engageable with a circumferential recess 24 in the outer tube to prevent retraction of the inner component by abutment with a face 36 thereof, and a fastening control member mounted for sliding movement relative to the inner component and for holding the heads in the recess, the member being displaced to release the heads for radial inward movement by a device. The strut 14 is fastened in its extended condition, as shown, by the fingers 42 held in the recess 24 by a disc shaped part 35 spring biased to abut the end of the inner component 26. To release the strut, a fluid operated piston 33, moves rightwardly to similarly displace the disc 35 allowing the finger heads 43 to be pushed axially and inwardly by the inner component 26, the heads now being trapped between the abutment face 36 and the disc 35. A switch 49 operated by a rod 46 movable with the piston 33 provides a signal to a remote indicator, or the rod itself protrudes from the strut to provide a visual indicator.
