Abstract

1363123 Coil formers; terminal connection SURREY STEEL COMPONENTS Ltd and J S CONN 25 Aug 1972 [25 May 1971] 17060/71 Heading B8M [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A bobbin for an electrical winding is associated with a member 18 of electrically non-conducting material carrying at least two spaced apart electrical terminals 19, and at least one pair of arms 21 arranged to snap around a portion of one of the end flanges 11 of the bobbin. The bobbin is preferably made of thermoplastic material and the member 18 of thermosetting material. In a preferred embodiment, the member 18 is C-shaped and formed with two pairs of arms 21 which snap-fit around studs 17 provided on the flange. The electrical terminals are in the form of tags which engage in slots provided in the member 18. In the preferred embodiment, the flange 11 is also provided with upstanding ribs 13, 14 adjacent the bore of the bobbin, the faces 15 of the ribs being inclined towards the bore to facilitate insertion of the laminations of a transformer. A flash guard may also be provided to span the area between the flanges and to engage in recesses provided in the edges of the flanges. The member 18 may be provided on one flange 11 only the other flange 11a being such that it may abut the same flange on a similar bobbin for back-to-back location on a transformer, one bobbin carrying the primary winding, and the other bobbin the secondary winding. Alternatively, a member 18 may be provided on each flange, one or more intermediate flanges being provided along the length of the bobbin to divide the length into sections for the reception of a plurality of windings.
