Abstract

1363074 Container closures METAL BOX CO Ltd 13 Sept 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 44201/70 Heading B8C [Also in Divisions B2 and B5] A closure for a container which is air permeable when subjected to heating or subsequent cooling, comprises a layer of material which may be sealed on to the container in air-tight fashion, and which is sufficiently porous to allow air to enter the container, but not at such a rate as to allow bubbles to form in the packaged product, while preventing the ingress of mould spores and yeasts. The closure may be of paper or perforated metal foil coated with or adhesively laminated with a plastics such as polyethylene polyvinyl acetate, oriented polystyrene, or low density polythene. Again, the closure may be a single plastics sheet. The closure seal is by induction heating or the application of heat and pressure. A clear plastics container is used for a product such as jam.
