Abstract
1362703 Dyeable polyolefin-copolyamide compositions MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 23 July 1971 [24 July 1970] 34766/71 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Divisions B5 and D1] Compositions suitable for making dyeable fibres and films comprise (1) 99 to 75 weight per cent of a crystalline polyolefin and (2) 1 to 25 weight per cent of a copolyamide derived from (a) at least one polyamine of formula RNHANHR<SP>1</SP> where R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrogen or together form an A group and A is a divalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical which may contain, besides carbon and hydrogen, nitrogen in the form of secondary or tertiary amino groups or other heteroatoms and (b) at least two dicarboxylic acids, or amideforming derivatives thereof, at least one of which is of general formula in which R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are hydrogen, and n is 1 to 10, and at least one of which is of general formula R<SP>11</SP>OOCBCOOR<SP>111</SP> in which B is a direct bond, a C 1-20 divalent aliphatic radical or C 6-20 divalent cycloaliphatic or aromatic radical, which may contain nitrogen or other heteroatoms. The polyolefin may be polypropylene, propylene/ethylene copolymer, polyethylene, polybutene-1, poly-4-methylpentene-1 or polystyrene. The compositions may be made into shaped articles dyeable with acid, metallized and disperse dyes, and the copolyamides rendered insoluble by reacting with diepoxy, diisocyanate, dialdehyde or dihalogen compounds or divinyl benzene. Many suitable copolyamide precursors are listed and examples describe the preparation of fibres from compositions comprising polypropylene and copolyamides derived from N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis-(2- carbomethoxyethyl)piperazine and hexamethylene diamine together with (1 and 2) dimethyl adipate, (3) dimethyl sebacate, (4) dimethyl terephthalate, (6) N-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine and dimethyl adipate and (7) N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis-(3-aminopropyl)piperazine and dimethyl adipate; from (5) N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis-(2-carbomethoxyethyl)piperazine, piperazine and dimethyl adipate; and from (8) N,N<SP>1</SP> - bis - (3 - carbomethoxypropyl)piperazine, hexamethylene diamine and dimethyl adipate.
