1362449 Toothed gearing; racks BARKER & NELSON (PTY) Ltd 20 Sept 1972 43550/72 Heading F2Q A mechanism for converting rotary motion into linear motion comprises a plate 13 guided for rectilinear movement by guides 10, 11, an elongated slot in the plate 13 having two parallel sides one of which is cut to define a rack 17, the opposite side being straight and uncut, and a rotatable pinion 18 in the slot, the pinion 18 engaging rack 17 on one side and abutting the straight uncut side of the slot. The mechanism is applied to a circuit breaker in which the pinion 18 is adapted to be coupled to a circuit breaker operator by a shaft 19 and a rectangular spring 14 in plate 13 is engaged by the toggle of the circuit breaker. The shaft 19 is spring loaded in a direction which will bias the plate 13 to the "circuit breaker off" position.
