Abstract
1362255 Vehicle bumpers COLLISION DEVICES Inc 30 Sept 1971 45625/71 Heading B7J [Also in Division F2] A vehicle crash guard comprises a rigid crushable cellular member 104, which is substantially destroyed during an impact to absorb energy, and a flexible compressible member 108 which acts resiliently, members 108 and 104 being mounted to receive impact forces sequentially such as on bolts 110 which permit sliding of member 108 towards a backing plate 105 as member 104 collapses. A front pressure plate 109 distributes impact load throughout member 104 and a flexible housing 103 retains member 104 after collapse. Several rigid crushable and/or flexible compressible members of different densities may be included to act sequentially in impact, and may have pressure plates interposed between them. The members may be of synthetic, e.g. plastics, or natural material.
