1362224 Tide indicating timepieces HIGHLAND LABORATORIES 13 July 1971 [20 July 1970] 32752/71 Heading G3T A timepiece is provided with means to indicate the time periods to the next high and low tides. A conventional mechanism 13 drives second, minute and hour shafts 16, 17, 15 with hands 18, 19, 28 associated with a 12-hour time scale 31 on face 32. Fixed to the hour shaft 15 is a transparent gear disc 23 which freely supports an annular gear 22. The gear 22 is retained on the disc 23 by flanges 26, 27 and carries a tide indicating scale 33 which is visible through the disc 23 and which is associated with stationary high and low tide pointers 34, 35 on face 32. The length of the inner periphery of gear 22 is substantially 1À035 times that of the outer periphery of the disc so that frictional engagement of the two peripheral surfaces occurs only at the top and the gear 22 rotates once every 12À420 hours. 12À420 hours is stated to be the average period between high tides and pointers 34, 35 with tide scale 33, upon which zero coincides with 12À420, indicate the time periods to the next high and low tides. In a second embodiment, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown), the tide time indicating scale (63) is stationary on the face (62) of the timepiece and the tide pointers (64, 65) move with the annular gear (52). The timepiece may be of the 24-hour type and the hands 18, 19, 28 may be omitted.
