Dust suppression for a pick assembly comprising a mounting 1 having a tapered projection 2 of substantially circular cross section and a pick 3 having a correspondingly tapered recess 4 involves the projection having a cutaway portion 7 that defines when the pick is mounted on the projection an outlet passageway from the assembly for water emerging from the end of the projection, the water being so supplied through a bore 6 extending through the projection. Preferably the base of the projection is outwardly flaired to cause deflection of water emerging from the passageway, which may be of variable cross section along its length.
