1527588 Rotary rock cutting heads HALL & PICKLES Ltd 15 July 1977 29900/77 Heading E1F A rotary rock cutting head 1 suitable for mounting on the end of a swingable boom of a tunnelling or like machine has pick boxes 4 having sockets 6 of circular cross section and so mounted on the head 1 that the axis 7 of each socket 6 is at an angle of between 35‹ and 45‹ to the radial line 8 from the axis of the head to the centre of the outer end of the socket. In each socket is non- rotatably mounted because of mating faces 10, 11 a pick 5 that has a leading cutting face or edge 13 located at a cutting angle of between 12.5‹ negative to 12.5‹ positive to a radial line 15 from the axis of the head to the radially nearer end of that cutting face or edge. In addition to the pick shown two other pick configurations are described.
