1361443 Triggering thyristors HOLZER PATENT AG 31 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970 17 Sept 1970] 40594/71 Heading H2F [Also in Division H3] In a circuit for producing a train of pulses in variable phase relationship with an A.C. supply in dependence on an input signal, a sawtooth wave is generated at 26 and fed to the emitter of a transistor 9 which is reciprocally coupled to a complementary transistor 10 so that at a time in each cycle of the sawtooth wave 26, depending on the control signal supplied to the base of transistor 10, transistors 9, 10 are triggered so as to generate a required pulse at the emitter of transistor 10. Transistors 9, 10 may be replaced by a four-electrode silicon controlled switch. As described, this pulse is used to trigger thyristor 27 so as to control the average current in a D.C. motor 28 in dependence on the magnitude of the control signal at 1. Capacitor 14 may be included to differentiate the trapezoidal wave formed by the Zener diode 23 so as to provide an initially steep start to each sawtooth wave. The rest of the wave is then generated by charging capacitor 15 via resistor 17. In Fig. 5 (not shown) diode 12 is omitted and an emitter follower connected between capacitor 14 and point 26. Full wave operation is envisaged.
