Abstract

1360686 Synthetic paper JAPAN SYNTHETIC PAPER CO Ltd and DAINIPPON INK & CHEMICALS Inc 21 Oct 1971 [22 Oct 1970] 49010/71 Headings C3G C3P and C3Q Paper-like film is formed from a composition comprising inter alia a mixture of (i) 90-60 wt. per cent of a thermoplastic resin which is a styrene polymer, and correspondingly (ii) 10-40 wt. per cent of a rubber having a solubility parameter of 8-9. Pigments, fillers and other additives may be present. The film may be calender- or hot roll-treated to impart gloss and smoothness thereto. Exemplified films are formed from compositions containing various combinations of the following ingredients:-thermoplastic resin: polystyrene, graft copolymer of styrene on polybutadiene, styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, graft styrene/ polyisoprene copolymer; rubber: natural rubber, SBR, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, butyl rubber, nitrile rubber; pigments and fillers: SiO 2 , lithopone, TiO 2 , CaCO 3 , ZnO, ZnS, BaSO 4 ; antioxidants: phenyl-#-naphthylamine, 4,4<SP>1</SP>- butylidene - bis - (3 - methyl - 6 - tertbutylphenol), 2 - mercaptobenzimidazole, 4,4<SP>1</SP>- thiobis - (6 - tert. - butyl - 2 - methylphenol), 2,6 - di - tert. - butyl - p - cresol; antiozonants: 1,3 - dibutylthiourea, p - alkoxy - N - alkyl aniline, 1 - cyclohexyl - 3 - phenylurea; anti-static agents: sodium n-dodecyl (or tetrapropylene)- benzene sulphonate, sodium lauryl sulphate; U. V. absorbents: 2-hydroxy-thio-octoxy-benzophenone, 2,4 - dihydroxy - benzophenone.
