Abstract

1360622 Micro-biological testing BIOTEC AB 21 June 1971 [22 June 1970; 4 June 1971] 29020/71 Heading C6F [Also in Division G1] A method of micro-biological analysis comprises the steps of cutting from a gel block by means of an automatically operated cutting unit, a gel strip forming a gel substrate and depositing said gel substrate on a glass strip, adding to said gel substrate a micro-biologically active substance, the gel substrate being so shaped, and the active substance being deposited thereon in such a manner, that diffusion or growth of the active substance occurs essentially in the longitudinal direction of the substrate, introducing by automatic means said gel substrate and glass strip into a protective tube, and conveying by automatic means said protective tube past one or more processing stations at least one of which includes an incubation step and thereafter evaluating the response produced in or by the said active substance. An installation for effecting the analytical method comprises an automatically operating cutting unit Fig. 5 for cutting strips from a gel block, an inoculating station Fig. 2 for transmitting to each gel strip disposed on a glass strip a micro-biologically active substance, means for introducing the inoculated gels into protective tubes or cassettes Fig. 4, a thermostatic chamber for incubating said tubes or cassettes, means for continuously feeding the tubes through the chamber and a reading station for evaluation of the response produced in or by the activate substance.
