Abstract

1360293 Data transmission: interference suppression; limiters SIEMENS AG 27 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 44646/72 Headings H4P and H3T A telegraph subscriber or exchange is connected to a transmitter through an input circuit substantially as shown which provides interference suppression, overvoltage protection, and failure indication. Double current input signals on lines a b from the subscriber pass through voltage reducing resistors R1, R2, R3 to the input of a differential amplifier which provides "in-phase" interference suppression. Its output A, double-current referred to earth, may control for example a transmitter which sends one frequency for a mark and a different frequency for a space. Diodes D1 to D4 provide overvoltage protection. The voltage swing at the input terminals of the differential amplifier is limited in both positive and negative senses during normal operation to the emitter-base voltage of transistors 1, 2. Their collectors have a common bond R4 the voltage across which is monitored at S by a threshold circuit (not shown). If the voltage across R4 is greater than a predetermined value, the presence of data at the amplifier input is indicated; but if the voltage falls lower than a certain value then an open circuit fault condition is indicated.
