Abstract

1359940 Clamps L P SCHMITT 12 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 16950/72 Heading E2B A fixing clamp comprises a bond or strip 3 adapted to be tightened round at least one object to be secured (e.g. a conduit 11) and round a support for the latter (e.g. a pole 12) and a device for tightening the band 3, the device comprising a screw-threaded element 2 provided with a helical thread and rotatable in a cavity 4 in a member 1, through which cavity 4 at least one end 6 of the band 3 is also passed; as the element 2 is rotated it presses against and bites the band 3 and imprints thereon a toothed rack thus ensuring the tightening of the band 3. As shown in Figure 1, the cavity 4 is a tapered hole inclined to the axis of the member 1 and has a slot 5 at its bottom to receive the end 6 of the band 3. The other end 7 of the band 3 passes through two slots 8, 9 parallel to the slot 5. The element 2 which consists of a metal tapered screw with a coarse pitch thread is rotatable to imprint a series of parallel marks on the band 3 which may be made of a plastics material, and the series of marks constitute the toothed rack. The member 1 is made of a resistant plastics material. In the embodiment of Figure 2 (not shown) the member (1) has a slot extending over the whole height of the member (1) and receiving the screw 2 which is a straight metal screw: both ends (6, 7) of the band (3) extend through the member (1) in slot (10) which communicate with the previously mentioned slot. In use both ends (6, 7) of the band (3) are formed with a series of parallel imprints as the screw is rotated. As seen in Figure 4 a bearing member 13 is interposed between the pole 11 and the conduit 12, which bearing member 13 has slots through which the band 3 extends.
