Abstract

1359875 Sintered welding contact nozzles HD KLEES 22 Oct 1971 49237/71 Heading C7D [Also in Division B3] A welding machine contact nozzle with an elongated central bore is made by compacting a metal powder 3 in a die 1 with a long core pin 6 attached to bottom punch 5 and extending into the bore 7 of upper punch 4. The core pin is long enough to extend into the bore 7 before the punch enters the die cavity and before the metal powder is charged into the cavity. The small diameter core pin e.g. 0À8-5 mm. is thus supported throughout the pressing operation. The compacted nozzle may be sintered in the die or after removal from the die. The metal powder is preferably a dispersion hardened Cu alloy. The nozzle of Fig.2 is compacted to the finished shape except for the screw thread 14.
