Abstract

1359275 Electrolytically maintaining the reducing properties of a solution BOMBAY TEXTILE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 30 Nov 1972 55420/72 Heading C7B [Also in Division D1] In a vat dying process the aqueous alkaline reducing liquor is electrolysed thus producing hydrogen which helps to maintain the reducing properties of the solution. Figure 1 shows a feeder tank 2 of a dyeing plant, the feeder tank being provided with a negative electrode 6 and positive electrode 8 immersed in an aqueous alkaline solution of hydrosulphite, common salt and caustic soda. The negative electrode 6 consists of a wooden cage formed of hoops 12 over ribs 14, a stainless steel wire mesh 16 is mounted on the side and base thereof, and is connected to the negative terminal of a d-c power source 18. The positive electrode 8 comprises a steel strip 23 housed in casing 24. In Fig. 3 dyeing jigger 38 is provided with guide rollers 40 and 42 over which the textile passes, positive electrode 8 and negative electrode 6 are dispersed respectively at the surface of and submerged in the vat dye liquor 44. The electrode 8 comprises a steel wire mesh 8a fitted to a horizontally disposed wooden support strip 8b, suspended by wooden strips 8c from cross plank 46. Steel strip 8d is connected to voltage supply 18.
