Abstract

1358824 Seaming non-metallic sheet material SCAE SOC COSTRUZIONI APPARECCHI ELETTRONICI Srl 15 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972] 1967/73 Heading B5K A device for cutting and welding thermoplastic film on a support 3 comprises film pressing means 7 reciprocable relative to the support 3 and operative to engage the film thereon and subsequently to weld the film, a cutting blade 9 substantially coextensive with the means 7, and means for moving blade 9 longitudinally of its cutting edge after engagement of the film by the means 7. In apparatus for producing thermoplastic bags from tubular film, Figs. 1 and 2, the pressing and welding unit 7 is carried by telescopic supports 5 on a beam 1. The unit 7 is covered with an anti-adhesion film 7A and has a slot therein to accommodate the blade 9 which is mounted by pins 11A, 11B on oscillatory supports. The pin 11B engages a member 13 mounted on a portion 15 of a forked member 15A linked by a pin 17 to an arm 19 pivoted by a pin 21 to a support 23 fixed to the beam 1. A spring 27 surrounding a pin 25 acts between the beam 1 and an extension 15B of the member 15 to urge the member 15 anti-clockwise, Fig. 1, of the pivot 17. The pin 17 is mounted on a hook member 29 raisable and lowerable by an eccentric pin 31 carried by a crank 33 rotatable with a pin 35 journalled in and operable externally of the beam 1. The pin 11A engages a member 37 mounted on a rod 39 extended by a hook 39A linked by an eccentric pin 41 to a crank 43 rotatable with a pin 45 operable externally of the beam 1. The rod 39 carries an arm 47 carrying a roller 49 co-operable with a shaped profile 51 on the unit 7, a guide 53 being provided. In use, the unit 7 contacts the film on the support 3 and the beam 1 moves towards the unit 7 upon yielding of the supports 5. The profile 51 exerts on the roller 49 a thrust in the direction of arrow f9 against the thrust of the spring 27 so that the blade 9 is moved in the direction of arrow f7 to effect cutting. By rotation of the pins 35, 45 the blade 9 can be moved outside the slot in the unit 7. In a modification, Fig. 1, the elements 51, 49, 47, 39 are replaced by a stationary profile 71 engageable by a roller 69 carried by a lever 65 pivoted at 63 to a support 61 on the beam 1. The lever 65 is pivoted to the blade 9 by a pin 67.
