Abstract

1358610 Transistor switching circuits ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 1 Dec 1972 [2 Dec 1971] 55473/72 Heading H3T [Also in Division G1] A threshold circuit having a light-emitting diode to indicate its state, is characterized in that the forward voltage drop across the lightemitting diode is used as the reference or threshold level for the circuit. In the preferred embodiment, Fig. 3, the voltage to be monitored is applied to the left-hand terminal A of a differential amplifier having a common emitter load R e , and the forward voltage dropped across a light-emitting diode LD is applied to the right-hand input B. In operation a small standing current is allowed to flow through the diode LD by a resistor R so as to provide the reference potential to point B, this small current being insufficient to make the diode glow. When the voltage to be monitored on terminal A rises above the reference voltage a transistor T4 conducts causing sufficient additional current to flow through the diode to cause it to glow, thereby indicating the change of state of the threshold circuit.
