Abstract

1358440 Marine craft propulsion unit VOLVO PENTA AB 7 Dec 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 56672/71 Heading B7V A marine craft propulsion unit has a reversing gear 4 of the type comprising two oppositely rotatable coupling muffs 6, 7, an intermediate clutch cone 13 and an output shaft 29. A central shaft 5 within the reversing gear, on which the clutch cone is threaded or is axially displaceable but non-rotatably mounted, is tubular. The central shaft at its end remote from the output shaft of the reversing gear has fastening means 25 for one end of a torsion rod 26 inserted within the bore of the shaft. The other end of the torsion rod extends beyond the central shaft and is connected to the output shaft. Jerks and shocks from the motor or propeller are damped by the resiliency of the torsion rod entirely enclosed within limited space in the reversing gear.
