Abstract

1357869 Bar turning and desealing machines Th KIESERLING & ALBRECHT 12 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 17695/73 Headings B3T and B3B In a bar peeling machine in which the bar material 18 is fed through a rotary cutter head, means is provided to control the radial movement of the cutters 1 to effect their radial outward displacement away from the bar should the axial feed of the bar stop. The feed of the bar is effected by feed rollers 2 driven by a motor 3 and extraction rollers 5 driven by a motor 4. The adjustment of the cutters 1 is effected from a motor 12 via gear-box 11 and gearing 10, 9 to produce axial displacement of a conical taper sleeve 7 which engages the cutters to cause their radial displacement. The control of the feed and retraction of the cutters is effected from a pulse generator 17 and time-lag relays 16a, 16b which are in a control line connecting all three motors so that pulses received from the generator determined by the operation of the feed motors and whereby should the feed of the bar stop then the cutters are automatically withdrawn from the bar, the time-lag relay 16a compensating for inertia problems so that the retraction of the cutters 1 is effective at the instant that the bar ceases to be fed. A further identical number of pulses from the pulse generator 17 through the time relay 16b effects through the respective motor, the infeed of the cutters and ensures that the feed motor is not started until the cutters are returned to their cutting position.
