Abstract

1357839 Pressure differential responsive indicators BENDIX CORP 13 Nov 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 52237/72 Headings F2E and F2F In a pressure differential responsive switch, two piston portions 48, 61, joined by a stem 80, are acted upon by pressure fluid in respective chambers 58, 72 in respective circuits of a dual hydraulic brake system, the stem having a land part 94 bounded by two ramps 86, 88; an electrically non-conductive body 95 secured to the switch housing 26 has a cylindrical bore 100 containing an electrical terminal 106, fixed at one end thereto and its other end connected to an indicator, and a plunger 114 having an axial projection 120 with a spherical head 122 and a cylindrical head on the other end, the spherical head contacting the land part when the pressures in the two circuits are equal so that a clip associated with the plunger is maintained out of contact with the terminal, but, upon a pressure differential occurring across portions 48, 61, the spherical head slides down one of the ramps, aided by resilient means located in the cylindrical bore 100, to allow clip-terminal contact to actuate the indicator until the pressures are subsequently equalized. The piston part 48 is exposed to fluid in a front wheel disc brake circuit which includes a metering valve 24, and the piston part 61 is exposed to fluid in a rear wheel drum brake circuit. The plunger 114 has the clip 134, Fig. 2, riveted to the cylindrical head 116, the clip having inwardly projecting prongs 140 with outwardly arcuate ends 144 which, when a pressure differential occurs, are biased by a spring 124 to contact a head 108 of the terminal thereby connecting a visual indicator to earth via the housing 26, the indicator being connected to a power source. Fig. 5 shows a similar clip which is located at the upper end of the spring 124 whose prongs when the plunger 114 is on the land part 80, are held away from the terminal head 108 by an extension 250 of the plunger pressing against the inner prong surfaces.
