1357824 Removing Brussels sprouts from their stalks J A VAN DONKELAAR 5 Jan 1972 [12 Jan 1971] 401/72 Heading A4C A device for stripping Brussels sprouts from their stalks comprizes a plurality of cutting members 1 each in the form of a bell-crank lever and provided with a knife 6 fastened on one end of an arm 8 of the lever and the other arm 10 of the lever lying circumferential to a rotatable supporting member 2. The arm 8 is connected to an auxiliary member 5 via a pivotal joint 4, and is coaxial with the supporting member 2, said lever being pivotally connected to the supporting member at a point 3. Means (12) Fig. 3, (not shown) are provided to alter the relative angular position of members 2, 5 and so allow stalks of various diameters to be introduced into the device. A small relative rotation of the members 2, 5 which are both supported in a bearing (15) and rotatable together owing to a common drive mechanism comprizing a rope engaging a V-shaped groove (14) in member 2, causes the necessary tilting of the levers. The stalk of each plant may be manually or mechanically passed into the device, and in the latter instance a pair of rollers (16) may be utilized. As a result of the centrifugal force caused by the rotating members 2, 5 the knives 6 are pressed against the stalks and facilitate stripping of the sprouts without biting into the stalks.
