1357772 Device for extinguishing burners P J DE LAROSIERE DE CHAMPFEU 27 April 1972 [20 May 1971] 16039/71 Heading F4T Apparatus for extinguishing a burner of the type comprising a wick 6 mounted in a wick holder 3 and screened when in use by a removable burner housing 5, includes a planar support 1 and at least one snuffing plate such as 11, movable in its own plane relative to the support into a position covering at least part of an aperture in the support or vice versa, the plate such as 11 being biased by a spring 30 so that it tends to move over the aperture. The apparatus may be provided with a single plate, a pair 11, 12 as shown, or three plates, the plates being adapted by guides 7, 8 to move linearly or being pivoted. Each plate is movable against the bias of the spring by a lever such as 21 rotatable about an axis 23, the lever acting on the plate through a pin such as 19 engaging a straight slot 15 in the plate and a curved slot 17 in the support. If the housing is removed, accidently or deliberately, the plates 11, 12 spring together and the straight edges 13b, 14b co-operate to extinguish the flame. In a modification the support 1 is formed integrally with the holder 3.
