Abstract
1357661 Printed circuits STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 4 Jan 1972 228/72 Heading H1R A printed circuit board is prepared by coating a substrate with a uniform conducting layer followed by at least one uniform insulating layer, mechanically engraving a circuit pattern in the insulating and conducting layers down to or into the substrate applying conductive material to the engraved portions to form the printed circuit and removing the remaining portions of insulating and conducting layers. The conducting layer is preferably electrolessly deposited on a sensitized epoxy-glass substrate and then covered with two insulating layers. After engraving and drilling any required through holes, the assembly is sensitized and electrolessly plated to form a second conductive layer. The outer layer of insulating material is then stripped off together with the second conductor layer covering it before electrolytically depositing copper on exposed surfaces of the second conductor layer, using the first conductor layer as the electrode. The inner insulating layer and first conductor layer are then removed to leave a homogeneous printed circuit of tracks and plated-through holes. In an alternative embodiment a material with a catalyst throughout for effecting electroless deposition directly is used as the substrate.
