1357585 Toy gramophone YUGEN-KAISHA WATANABE KENKYUSHO 8 Sept 1971 41802/71 Heading G5R In a spring driven toy gramophone in which a stylus is spring urged into contact with the record groove, the stylus pressure is reduced as the stylus moves towards the record centre thereby assisting in maintaining the record speed constant as the spring motor runs down. Spring 34 is wound by a pull on cord 50 and when this is released the spring drives turntable 38 with record 42 via a one way spring clutch 44. Pick-up arm 58 carrying stylus 82 is formed with a pimple 96 which is engaged by an enlarged part 94 of a pressure lever 86 pivotally mounted at its ends 92 in bearing blocks 88. Adjustable blade spring 102 urges lever 86 towards the pick-up with a substantially constant moment and as the pimple moves over path 98 towards the record centre its distance to the pivot axis of the lever increases so that the pressure applied to the stylus decreases as it moves towards the record centre thereby decreasing the load on the spring motor as this runs down. The lever 86 is formed with a notch in a block 127 through which the winding card 50 extends so that as this is pulled the lever is lifted away from the pick-up arm which under the action of spring member 70 is returned to stop 78 with the stylus over the record start groove. Speaker cone 130 is mounted on the end of the pressure lever 86 and a governor is provided to further assist in maintaining the speed of the record constant.
