Abstract

1,143,529. Play-back apparatus. TOMY KOGYO CO. Ltd. 15 March, 1967, No. 12214/67. Heading G5R. A manually operated sound reproducing device comprises a grooved pulley 26 carrying a recorded disc 26<SP>1</SP>, the pulley being rotatably mounted on a shaft 25 between a support plate 14 and a base-plate 11 which carries a soundcone 12. Pulley 26 is driven by a belt 42, Fig. 1, when a toothed wheel 29, which is mounted on a movable flywheel carrying shaft 30, is brought into engagement with a pinion 38 by means of a driving wheel 36 on turning a hand crank 34. When rotation of driving wheel 36 is stopped, toothed wheel 29 disengages from pinion 38, but flywheel 37 continues to drive belt 42. A tonearm 45 carries a stylus 44 adapted to engage sound grooves 43 in disc 26<SP>1</SP>. Tone-arm 45 has wing-like portions 50, 51 which are normally in contact with the apex of sound-cone 12 so as to transmit vibration of the stylus to the cone. When the stylus reaches the end of sound groove 43 it enters a recess 54, Fig. 4, in pulley 26 and the pulley is urged by a coil spring 53 into a position nearer base-plate 11, in which position a projection 60 or 61 on a block 55 engages a stopper 62 on the base-plate. Block 55 is slidably and rotatably mounted on shaft 25. Engagement with stopper 62 causes projections 60, 61 to run on cam surfaces 58, 59 in recess 54 so that the stylus 44 is released from the recess 54 and returned by the action of a spring 49 to the starting point of sound groove 43. Further rotation of the pulley 26 will release projections 60, 61 from the inclined surfaces allowing block 55 to be returned by spring 56 and thus releasing projections 60, 61 from engagement with the stopper 62 to enable the record to be played again.
