Abstract
1357518 Making bags F ZIMMERMANN & CO 17 April 1973 [18 April 1972] 18537/73 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A method of packaging vertically stacked coins or tokens &c. comprises forming perforated welded seams 18 transversely across a longitudinally folded heat shrinkable web to form bags open at the top, inserting spreader elements 39 into the leading bag, moving the elements and bag to beneath a stacking tube 46 while drawing the next bag into the bag opening position and by clamps 25, (26) then holding the next bag tearing the leading bag therefrom, inserting a stack of coins from the tube 46 into the bag, and shrinking the bag about the coins by means of hot air 72 as the bag in its upright position moves downwardly. A photo-electric sensor 27 operating through a hole in the clamps detect the passage of a seam 18 or of printed matter and cause the clamps to close and a loop of the web upstream of the clamps to be moved by a roller (11) on a pivotally mounted arm (12) against an electrically heated serrated sealing bar (16) which is adjustably mounted for different bag sizes. The folded web is unwound from a roll and the folds separated by a reserve loop forming doctor (7). The perforation in the seams 18 are shorter at the top of the web than in the rest of the web. The spreader elements or pins 39 are mounted on a cage 30 which is oscillated with a sleeve 37 about a shaft 38 between a bag gripping position and the tube 46. The sleeve and cage are raised by a cam 35 as they move towards the filling position and are held raised, as they return, by a pivoted plate 50 until the cam follower 36 falls off the plate so that the pins fall into the mouth of the leading bag opened by an air blast 44. Each pin is carried by a lever pivoted to an outer ring of the cage and in slotted engagement with an inner ring. A roller 41 on one lever engages a cam 40 and causes relative rotation of the rings to spread the pins apart. The coin falling into the bag strip the bag off the pins and the filled bag falls into a cage 65 and on to an annular support 68 which lower the bag through the heating chamber 70. An ejector pin 69 topples the shrunk package on to a shoot 75.
