Abstract

1357326 Wells &c HENRY SYKES Ltd 28 May 1971 [1 June 1970] 26388/70 Heading E1F A well point for dewatering ground, comprises a tubular body 10 of shape sustaining plastics tubing having a lower closure 13 and an upper part 14 arranged to receive a suction pipe 15, the body having a series of filter openings 12 and being sheathed in a fabric sleeve 16 through which water being drawn through the perforations is filtered. The parts 13, 14 may be end caps screwed on to the body and into which the ends of the nylon sleeve may be tucked instead of being secured as shown. The end caps may have perforations. The body may be of hard plastics (PVC) tubing. The sleeve may be of nylon or other corrosion and damp resistant fabric. In use, the sleeve vibrates and produces a self-cleansing action. The well point is introduced into the ground within a metal placement casing provided with water pressure lances. A metal rod may be put down the tube 15 to engage the cap 13 and assist downward movement of the well point. The casing is removed and the pipe 15 connected to a header pipe and suction pump. The tubular body, suction pipe and nylon sleeve may be stored on reels, and lengths of each cut and the well point assembled on site. The well point may be used as a stand pipe for water supply.
