Abstract
1357112 Gas turbine engines ROTAX Ltd 20 Sept 1971 [3 Oct 1970] 47136/70 Heading F1G A gas turbine engine for use in an aircraft comprises inlet guide vanes also a dynamo electric machine which is cooled by cooling fluid, at least one of the vanes being provided with a passageway through which the cooling fluid can be circulated whereby the cooling fluid is cooled. The engine shown in part comprises hollow inlet guide vanes 20 also an inlet fairing cone 12 within which is mounted an electric machine such as an alternator also a constant speed drive 11. An annular fluid reservoir 14 is disposed around the casing of the constant speed drive. A hollow member 21 is disposed in the guide vane 20 so as to define three passageways 22, 23 24. A pump 17 takes fluid from the reservoir 14 and supplies it to a coil 18 disposed round the stator of the alternator, the fluid being withdrawn by scavenge pump 19 and passed through the passageways 22, 23 whereby the cooling fluid is cooled the fluid then returning to the reservoir. The guide vane is heated by the flow of the cooling fluid whereby the vane is de-iced.
