Abstract
1356485 Diaphragm pumps GENERAL MOTORS FRANCE 21 Dec 1972 [15 Jan 1972] 2034/72 Heading F1A In a diaphragm fuel pump comprising a diaphragm 3 moved on its suction stroke by a rod 16 and on its delivery stroke by a spring 24, a lostmotion connection is provided between diaphragm 3 and rod 16 to permit reciprocation of the rod when the pump is under shut-off pressure. The diaphragm is clamped between an upper plate 7, e.g. of plastics, and a lower plate 8, e.g. of sheet metal, tubular projections 9, 10 on the plates fitting coaxially and projection 10 having inward radial projections (20) to retain it on projection 9, Fig. 3 (not shown). The plates 7, 8 have retaining beads 14 and recesses 15 for gripping the diaphragm. Projection 9 has a bead 11 to retain the head 17 of rod 16, axial slots (12) in the end portion of projection 9, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) permitting entry of head 17 on assembly, the slots being shaped to facilitate moulding. Abutment 18 defines the degree of lost motion of rod 16, which is biased against a cam 21 by spring 27. Lubricant grooves 22 and a seal 23 are provided.
