Abstract

1356308 Shaping sack mouths W & C SCOTT Ltd 18 Sept 1972 [18 Sept 1971] 43626/71 Heading B8C The mouth of a sack is shaped to a slit-like opening after filling by fingers 13 which are extended into the mouth of the sack and then drawn apart in opposite directions. The fingers 13 are extended by pneumatic rams 14 mounted on members (12) which are slidable on a frame 11 by means of pneumatic rams 15. The extent of movement of the members 12 is limited by stops (16). Clamping bars 20 pivotable by means of rams 24 grip elongated sack mouth and guide it to a sewing machine or heat-sealing device. The spacing between the bars 20 is adjustable by means of abutment members acting on the rams 24 or by using position-controlled double acting rams. The sacks are supported on a conveyer 10 which may be moved intermittently past the mouth-shaping apparatus or may be moved continuously, the mouth-shaping apparatus traversing a short distance with the conveyer. To avoid stretching of the sack mouth, the fingers 13 may incorporate resiliently mounted portions or the mounting of the finger assembly may include a resilient connection. The apparatus of this Specification may be used with the sack filling apparatus described in Specification 1,272,791.
