1356213 Capacitors ERIE TECHNOLOGICAL PRODUCTS Inc 14 Dec 1972 [18 Feb 1972] 7695/72 Heading H1M A substantially annular monolithic capacitor comprises alternate dielectric and metal layers, alternate metal layers 6 extending to the outer periphery of the capacitor for parallel connection by a contact layer applied thereto, the other metal layers 7 extending to the central aperture for like connection, the electrodes of at least one set having a castellated shape at the contact edge so as to leave zones of dielectric material exposed and enhance unification of the capacitor body through bonding together of abutting dielectric surfaces. The dielectric is preferably ceramic; examples being specified, but may be glass, glass-ceramic, or synthetic resin. The electrode may be palladium, gold, alloys thereof, silver, or aluminium, depending on the dielectric and the contact layersilver, palladium, gold, mixtures thereof, aluminium or copper. Preferably alternate sheets of green ceramic are screen-printed with an appropriate electrode pattern, stacked with end sheets of preferably the same material, the assembly cut into individual capacitor units and fired. The contact surfaces may be abraded where necessary to expose electrode material. The contact layers may extend over the whole or part of each contact surface.
