1356125 Modular furniture F C HUNTER 11 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 49039/71 Headings A4H and A4U A modular furniture element (i) comprises a rectangular tray, the base comprising a panel (2) measuring 27" by 21" and including a central rectangular orifice (4) measuring 19" by 15" the panel having peripheral upstanding side walls (3) 3" in height. The outer corners of the panel and the adjacent side wall portions may form an arc of a circle of 1" radius. The element comprises metal, wood or plastics such as injected polyether foam which has a hard skin. An armchair may be formed from four elements bolted together to form the seat back and side supports and a storage unit may be formed from two elements forming the side supports and panels fixed to the side walls thereof. The elements may form supports for a table top, the base and top of a wardrobe, and the head and foot boards of a bed. The modular element may be cut in half and the U-shaped elements so formed may be inverted and support a table top.
