Abstract

1355956 Golf balls DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 1 July 1971 [10 July 1970] 33726/70 Heading A6D [Also in Divisions C3] Unitary golf balls, or the cores for golf balls formed from a core and a cover, are moulded from compositions comprising a rubber, a polylactone, a filler and a source of free radicals. In Examples, both types of ball are formed from a mixture comprising cis-1,4-polybutadiene, polycaprolactone, silica, lead carbonate, titanium dioxide, dicumyl peroxide and 4,4'- thiobis(6-tertbutyl-m-cresol), in some cases with trimethylol propane trimethacrylate in addition. In those Examples where a cover is used, it is moulded in two halves from one of the following:- (1) a blend of 95 parts of ethylene/ methacrylic acid copolymer, in which 55% of the acid groups are present in sodium salt form, 5 parts of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer and 4 parts of titanium dioxide; (2) a styrene/butadiene/styrene block copolymer; or (3) a mixture of synthetic trans-polyisoprene, natural balata, Tjipetir Gutta, pale crepe, styrene-butadiene resin, titanium dioxide, ultramarine blue and curing agents.
