Abstract
1355813 Antistatic polymer compositions SANDOZ Ltd 26 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 17179/71 Headings C3P and C3R Polymers are rendered antistatic by incorporating therein tertiary amino esters of formula where R 1 is a C 1 -C 24 saturated or unsaturated, optionally substituted, aliphatic radical, R 2 is C 1 -C 5 hydroxy alkyl or (C x H 2x O) m H, R 3 is C 1 -C 5 alkyl or R 2 , n is 1 to 4, m is 2 to 10 and x is 2 to 3, provided that when R 1 contains 7 to 17 carbon atoms and the polymer is a polyolefin then the polymer does not contain a bisphenol compound in sufficient amount to stabilize it against oxidation. Specified polymers are polyamides, polystyrene and polymers of ethylene, propylene, butene-1 and pentene-1; and plasticizers, pigments, lubricants and fillers may also be present. Examples describe compositions of polyethylene and (1) triethanolamine monolaurate and (3) C 8 -C 10 coconut fatty acid monoester of triethanolamine; polypropylene and (2) triethanolamine monostearate, (4) methyldiethanolamine monolaurate, and (5) butyldiethanolamine monolaurate; and polycaprolactam and (6) triethanolamine monolaurate.
